I recently read a novel which has been on my bookshelf for a number of years. It was written by Fred Chappell and the title is “Brighten the corner where you are.” I found the title catching and very meaningful. It contains a vital question which we should perhaps consider asking ourselves every day. The question could be “How might I brighten the space I will operate in today?” or “How might I engender positive energy within myself today and might I lighten up the day for others today?”

We each have the potential to radiate immense negativity through thoughts, words and actions towards ourselves, others and our complex, challenging society on a daily basis. We have the choice. “No” I would like to say. Dumping destructive energy in the metaphoric “corner” we occupy within ourselves and our surroundings every day may instil hope, joy, and encouragement to these.
